After 3 days of intense sightseeing, we were ready for a relaxing few days on the beaches of Phuket, Thailand. We stayed in a lovely guest house just off Kata Beach (a 4 minute walk to the beach). The beach had beach chairs with umbrellas for 100 baht (roughly $3). We spent our days looking out at crystal blue water, long tail boats, and beautiful, green islands. Patrick continued to ask his famous question, "Do you think we're getting any sun?" We ate pad thai and spring rolls washing it down with orange Fanta. It was tough, but we made it through.
We took a boat tour of some of the other islands. Kho Phi Phi where the movie The Beach was filmed, is just one of them. They were beautiful islands, but there were too many people so we decided that we liked our little Kata beach just fine.
At night, we ate wonderful food at the guest house, played cards, and drank Tiger beer. It was such a wonderful time, we think we'll go back for more someday.
We also saw a Thai kick boxing match while we were there. It was exciting and fascinating! Before every match the fighters did several rituals where they paid their respects to their parents, coaches, budda and all the other people that got them there. Punches are actually not the preferred maneuver. Knee jabs and kicks garner more points for the boxers. We saw one almost knock out (exciting). However, we did find it a bit disturbing that young boys were fighting, but "it takes all sorts to make up the world." We also met a couple that was staying just down the road from us, and they were there from Sweden training in kick boxing. There was supposedly a good coach there in town. It was all very interesting.

Hey guys! We are currently in Phuket and see that we like to travel the same way as you do. It was so much fun meeting you guys and spending Christmas with you! My parents are still here for another week, so once we get back "home" (Bangkok) I hope to post some of our travels. Hope you are still having a blast and can't wait to see what you're up to now...
Again, great to meet you and hope to keep in touch and see you in China.
